Financial Literacy Programs

We have the classes to help you take or improve control over your finances.  A wide range of classes including checking account management, budgeting, credit management, and homeownership are offered.  Most classes are provided at no cost to those in the communities we serve.

Are you a civic group, employer, non-profit agency, or faith-based group looking for a speaker on financial matters?  Over 400 classes were provided last year to community groups.  Phone us to arrange a topic, time and date convenient for you.

A Home of My Own?
Almost everyone dreams of owning his/her own home. Financial advisors have long proclaimed home ownership as one of the best investments one can make.  Despite this, many people make mistakes during the process that could end up costing them money or, in some cases, their homes.

This course prepares you with information necessary to make informed decisions and reduces the confusion and worry of this major financial undertaking.  Even if you don’t plan on purchasing in the near future, this class will help you build the solid financial foundation necessary for responsible home ownership and enable you to avoid any financial pitfalls.

Those attending all sessions will receive a Housing Education Certificate. This certificate is required by many lenders and down payment assistance programs to meet eligibility requirements for Affordable Home Buyer Programs.

Fresh Start Checking™ (Nevada Only)
A partnership with Nevada State Bank (NSB) provides consumers who have had a past banking problem an affordable opportunity for a Fresh Start™.  To obtain registration materials visit any NSB branch. Our financial literacy class on checking account management is also required before opening the account.  Take advantage of this opportunity to establish a new banking relationship.  The registration form and a $20 fee is payable 2 business days in advance of the scheduled class.

Making Ends Meet and Dreams Come True
Is your money getting away from you?  Too much month at the end of the money?  Where is it going? Attend this interesting class for hints, direction, and suggestions for planning and reaching your financial goals.  Also learn how to build and maintain a favorable credit history to allow you to achieve a more satisfying lifestyle.

Introduction to Your Debt Management Plan (DMP)
We know new clients have many questions about their DMPs.  This session will help DMP clients understand the benefits, expectations and responsibilities of the DMP partnership with CCCS.  Attendance is a must for all DMP clients.

Debtor Education
Have you filed bankruptcy since October 17, 2005?  Every consumer must receive a Financial Literacy Certificate prior to discharge of their bankruptcy.  Our agency has been approved by the Executive Office of the U. S. Trustee to provide the required course and is available in both a classroom setting and through a self-study Internet class.  The required certificate will be issued upon completion of the course.
